Peoria man charged with attempted murder of girlfriend

PEORIA (25News Now) - A Peoria man will remain in jail until his trial after allegedly shooting his girlfriend earlier this week and causing several other injuries.
35-year-old Calvin Freeman was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated domestic battery, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
Police were called to a local hospital just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, regarding a woman shot in the base of her neck.
The state’s attorney added the woman sustained several other injuries, including a broken clavicle, fractured shoulder, a lacerated lung, and broken ribs. She is hospitalized in stable condition, according to prosecutors.
The state’s attorney said the woman spoke with detectives and identified Freeman as the shooter.
After a search warrant of Freeman’s home, where a gun was recovered, he was arrested the next day and admitted to the shooting.
He is due back in court next month.
