‘Exasperated’ student-teacher won’t return after allegedly commenting about shooting student
WASHINGTON (25News Now) - A student-teacher at Washington 50 schools was arrested for making a comment about shooting a student on social media Wednesday.
Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 22-year-old Kristen Volpe at John L. Hensey Elementary School around 1 p.m. Wednesday. She was booked into the Tazewell County Jail for disorderly conduct.
According to deputies and the school district, Volpe commented on shooting a student in a social media group chat with friends after a student came up to her and closed her laptop during class. Volpe sent the message to her friends, asking them whether she should “shoot” the student.
Deputies interviewed her and came to the conclusion that she made the comment out of “exasperation,” had no intentions to harm anyone, and was not a threat to the school.
Washington District 50 Schools Superintendent Chad Allaman emailed a letter explaining the situation to parents. He said Volpe is not returning to the school to finish her educational assignment.
