PEORIA (25News Now) - Peoria students return to the classrooms Wednesday as the Peoria Public School District 150 helps the remaining Quest Charter Academy kids transition into their new schools.

Quest Charter Academy closed its doors for the last time in June. This left around 400 middle and high school students to transition.

The district will now place around 300 students for this upcoming school year, with the majority attending Richwoods High School. Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said they are adding another assistant principal there.

“Everybody says these are our kids, these are students right now they have their classes. They had orientation,” said Kherat.

According to Kherat, the placements of students are as follows:

  • 154 are going to Richwoods High School,
  • 73 are going to Liberty Middle School,
  • 43 are going to Mark W Bills Middle School,
  • 33 are going to Rolling Acres Middle School,
  • 4 are going to Manual High School
  • 7 are going to Peoria High School

According to the Illinois Report Card, Quest Charter Academy aimed to teach students a reimagined education with accelerated hands-on opportunities. With students heading back to other Peoria buildings, Kherat said the students will have the option to keep that pace going.

“They have AP options, accelerated programs, and enriched classes, so there are hundreds of options in terms of acceleration for them,” Kherat said.

At least 15 staffers from Quest Charter, mostly teachers, were hired. Kherat said they will track student progress by attendance, behavior, and grades. She believes these familiar faces can help the students and their families feel more at ease.

“This is embedded in the core success plan for each student, and we worked with parents quite a bit. I’ve met with some parents and spoken with them one-on-one,” said Kherat.

Classes will start this Wednesday.
