Mold is an unwelcome visitor in this kind of weather

PEORIA (25News Now) - Your home could be at risk for mold given the wet weather we’ve had, and home restoration companies see more business this time of year.

Mold develops with high levels of moisture and warm temperatures.

“So, mold is a fungus. Many people are allergic to it, and the most common side effects are wheezing, coughing, and runny nose, said Dr. Ravindra Kashyap, a pulmonologist at Carle Health.

“The best way to prevent [mold] is controlling the humidity. If you can control the humidity at home, you won’t see high levels of mold,” said Nick Kellerstrass, president of ServiceMaster in the Bloomington-Peoria Area.

Prices can vary depending on the amount of mold you have. If any mold is visible, you should contact a professional, said Kellerstrass.

The industry standard is that a professional should called if there’s more than 10 square feet of visible mold growth, Kellerstrass said.
