Peoria’s Spain wins 6th term in Illinois House
PEORIA (25News Now) - State Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) has declared victory in his race for a sixth term in the Illinois House, defeating Democratic challenger Nicole Dopler in the 73rd District.
A former Peoria City Council member, Spain was first elected to the House in 2016.
Spain’s campaign released a statement at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday.
“I am so honored to be chosen by the voters of the 73rd District to be re-elected as our State Representative in Springfield. Our message of stopping corruption, restoring integrity and making Illinois safer and more affordable for families resonated with residents. To my family, friends, volunteers, donors and supporters- thank you from the bottom of my heart. Tonight we celebrate this win and get back to work tomorrow on behalf of 73rd District residents.”
His opponent is a healthcare worker and mother of five from Port Byron, near the Quad Cities. Dolpler’s platform included strengthening the workforce and expanding access to healthcare and education.
Spain said he too is focused on healthcare, and initiatives to bring economic growth and jobs to the area.
The largely rural 73rd District covers parts of nine counties including Peoria, Woodford, Stark, and Marshall counties.
