Farmers urged to document red-dyed diesel use
Good recordkeeping is key, says Peoria County Farm Bureau manager
PEORIA (25News Now) - As questions remain about the temporary use of red-dyed diesel in some on-road farm vehicles, the Peoria County Farm Bureau is encouraging farmers to keep detailed records.
The reminder comes as state and federal governments are temporarily allowing farmers to use red-dyed diesel in certain on-road vehicles through the end of the year to help lower energy costs.
“We’ve been staying on top of that situation, making sure that farmers are documenting if they are using red-dyed diesel,” said Farm Bureau Manager Charlie Hensley. “We’re not exactly sure yet, and we’re learning more about what the guidelines are.
Hensley said the changing guidance has created another challenge during an already busy harvest season.
“It’s been hectic, especially for farmers because they have to adjust to these situations,” Hensley said. “Changes can happen pretty quickly.”
While many Central Illinois farmers are nearing the end of harvest, the bureau is continuing to monitor updates on the temporary diesel policy.
