CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - A 32-year-old sanitation worker from South Carolina died after he fell off a garbage truck on his first day on the job, the coroner says.

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 32-year-old John Derrick Dover.

Dover was riding on the rear platform of a garbage truck around 1:50 p.m. Monday when the truck made a turn, and he fell onto the pavement. He was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center, where he died, the coroner’s office said.

The garbage truck was being driven by Dover’s father, and it was Dover’s first day on the job, according to the coroner’s office.
