METAMORA (25News Now) - Rides, food, and live music have taken over Metamora Village Park and the surrounding area. Wednesday was the first day of Old Settlers Days.

Many of the attendees have been going to the fair for decades. Metamora resident Christine Nauman has been going to the event for over 60 years.

She remembers paying for rides as a child with bottle caps from Schierer’s Dairy. Many of the children would collect the caps all year long.

“We didn’t have to have any money, and so we were up here a lot. Back then, we could be here without our parents. We didn’t have to worry. That’s a really great memory,” Nauman said.

She still loves the fair, attending every year and volunteering at her church’s food tent. She has now shared the event with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The festival runs until Saturday, with the Old Settlers Day parade at 10am that day. The Grand Marshal this year is the Metamora Historical Society.
