MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) - A Bloomington man who worked as a local real estate agent is charged with arson for allegedly setting a house on fire to collect insurance money.

Charging documents filed against Thomas Krieger, 65, said the fire happened April 2 in the 1300 block of Monterey Pine Drive, which is part of the Evergreen Villas development in northeast Normal.

A realty website lists Krieger as an associate at a real estate firm. Krieger is also charged with being in possession of someone else’s credit card and using the card to buy items at various locations including Lowe’s, Thornton’s, and Meijer.

The alleged victim in the credit card case is an agent at another realty firm, according to online records.

Krieger faces up to seven years in prison if he’s found guilty of arson. Thursday, McLean County Judge Jason Chambers granted the state’s motion to keep Krieger in jail before trial.
