SPRINGFIELD (25News Now) - For the first time, visitors to the Illinois State Fair will have to pass through metal detectors, and their bags will be checked at all grandstand entrances.

State Fair organizers and Illinois State Police said in a release that no backpacks, duffle bags or purses larger than 14 inches by 8 inches will be allowed in the grandstand.

Authorities also said they’ll confiscate firearms, weapons of any kind, illegal substances, drones, laser pointers, fireworks or flammable materials.

Adding to the list, organizers are not allowing outside drink containers, including bottles, cans, Stanley/reusable cups, and refillable souvenir cups. Drinks will be sold in the grandstand, according to the release.

Large professional-style cameras and tripods are also prohibited.

Organizers advise fairgoers to review the complete list of banned items before arriving there. To see the list, click here.

People buying mobile tickets are also being warned to download the tickets to their Ticketmaster app before they arrive at the fair to ensure a reliable Wi-Fi signal.

Latest news and information about the fair can be found on the fair’s Facebook page and on Instagram.

The fair runs from Thursday, August 7 to Sunday, August 17.
