Hundreds gather in Downtown Peoria to oppose Trump, Musk
PEORIA (25News Now) - Hundreds of people marched through Downtown Peoria on Saturday as part of a National Day of Action to oppose Trump Administration policies.
The group Peoria 50501 arranged the “Hands Off Our Democracy” demonstration, similar to protests held in Bloomington-Normal, Kewanee, and other locations.
Participants displayed signs advocating for a large variety of causes, including rights of women, the LGBTQ community, and protecting social security and Medicare.
“We are sending out the warning, and we are telling Trump, and Elon Musk, and the dysfunctional politicians on Capitol Hill that we need to be heard,” said protest organizer Theresa Kuhlman.
Protesters yelled out chants as they marched down Main Street. They said, “Hate doesn’t make America Great” and “Hands off our Democracy.”
The march started at the Gateway Building, proceeded to the federal courthouse and wound up under the Lincoln mural at the Peoria County Courthouse.
The 50501 organization stands for 50 protests, 50 states, and one movement.
