PEORIA (25News Now) - The Peoria County Election Commission conducted a public test of its equipment to ensure everything runs smoothly ahead of election day.

As per the state election code, test ballots are generated by election staff, and each candidate and referendum option on the ballot will receive two votes — one for in-person election day procedures, and one to simulate voting by mail.

Those who were at the public test could mark those ballots, and some went through the ADA-compliant machines as well.

”This is a good way to ensure that all of our T’s are crossed and our I’s are dotted and everything looks good,” said Elizabeth Gannon, the Executive Director for the Peoria Election Commission.

She said the test allows staff the chance to make sure things are operating as intended before Election Day.

“The official ballots do not start going out until next Thursday. This gives us a week to go back into our system, rebuild the ballot, reformulate the database, and make sure everything is accurate,” Gannon said.

Election Day is Nov. 5, with early voting beginning Sept. 26.
