You Gotta Eat: BC BBQ

PEKIN (25 News Now) - On a cold day, nothing tops a warm meal. I’m back in Pekin looking to try some magnificent meats!

Brian Battles has always had some skills on the grill, so about four years ago, he opened BC BBQ and put his product out there for the world try.

“We just started doing a catering thing - me and my wife,” Brian said. “We grew in size, so we went to another location.”

Now, with the smoker set up out back, BC BBQ is serving up big portions of your favorite plates, plus some awesome appetizers and savory sides.

We get started with a house favorite - BC’s Loaded Nachos.

“You can have your choice of meat: brisket, pork, chicken,” Brian said.

Everything is piled high on the plate, and the whole dish is complemented very well with locally-made Lovingoods BBQ sauce.

Next, I’m spoiled with a little bit of everything: pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends, and my personal favorite - a righteous rack of ribs.

“I get up every morning and start my grill, smoke them with cherrywood and a little bit of hickory now and again,” Brian said. “It usually takes about four-and-a-half to five hours to get them done from start to finish.

It is well worth the wait. These ribs taste amazing and they fall right off the bone. Plus, they go very well with some cheesy mashed potatoes and garlic-bacon green beans.

BC has everything a meat-lover could ask for, plus a long list of sauces to enhance the flavor.

Brian says he wants guests to come for the food and stay for the friendliness.

“We’ve always made this a family environment,” Brian said. “You may not know the person that comes in, but you may know that person by the time you leave.”

Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Sunday: Closed.
