You Gotta Eat: The Ditch
SECOR (25 News Now) - I’m in Secor for the first time, and on this show, we know small towns deliver big flavor. A local spot here is doing just that.
Matt King spent years driving trucks, but he always had a knack for cooking. So, five years ago, he opened The Ditch.
“Trying to give people here an option where they don’t have to drive to Peoria or Bloomington to get excellent food,” Matt said.
The Ditch is serving up all kinds of bar bites and pub plates, and Matt’s daughters - Rachel and Tiffany - fix the food.
We head into the kitchen where Rachel starts with their signature starter - a sensational shrimp skewer.
“It took me many years to develop just the right flavor,” Matt said.
The skewer sizzles as it cooks, and it is just as exciting to taste as it is to watch. I’m told to save some room, though, and soon, I find out why.
It is time to try Matt’s famous “Ditch Burger”.
“It is two quarter-pound burger patties, bacon, onion ring, and the bun is two Texas toast grilled cheeses.
Not a lot can be said about the burger that isn’t already said just judging by the look. It is absolutely packed and tastes absolutely amazing.
With what little energy I had left after eating, there were a ton of fun games to enjoy. Plus, depending on when you’re there, The Ditch offers some nifty, nightly dinner specials.
Matt says, when people come to eat, he hopes they leave with two things.
“A full stomach and a smile on their face,” Matt said.
You can find The Ditch at 106 Bestor Street in Secor.
