You Gotta Eat: Radish Kitchen
PEORIA (25 News Now) - This week, we’re looking for a healthy and hearty meal. Well, look no further than Radish Kitchen, which uses local ingredients to put its own spin on popular dishes.
Years ago, owner Jam Rohr went vegan to help with a health issue. Friends and family caught on to her crafty cooking, and soon, what started as a few recipes grew into much more.
“It was originally kind of a convenience store, but people wanted more food. So, we offered more food,” Jam said.
The Campustown storefront features an Autumn-inspired menu that boasts a wide variety of plant-based plates. Healthy food to put folks in a happy mood.
“I just kind of hope people walk away with an open mind to try new things and be a little more adventurous,” Jam said.
So, we adventure into the kitchen to get a front-row seat to watch Jam work her magic. First, a popular starter - the Artemisia Nachos.
“It’s potato wedges, cashew nacho cheese, caramelized onions, and textured vegetable protein bacon,” Jam said.
The nachos make for a delicious combination of flavors. And the best part? The dish is entirely plant-based.
Next up - the main course: Radish Kitchen’s crunch wrap. A unique take on the popular fast food favorite.
The wrap is filled with potatoes, beans, cashew cheese, guacamole, and more. Once it’s out of the oven, I rush to the table to try. And it does not disappoint.
The crunch wrap tops a long list of options at Radish Kitchen - one for every preference.
Plus, they are serving tasty juices, vegan desserts, and other items you may not find anywhere else.
“I hope people walk away with an open mind of trying new things - or trying food in different ways,” Jam said.
Radish Kitchen is located in Campustown in Peoria, at 1200 Main Street, #22.
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
