You Gotta Eat: Ashers Bar & Grill
PEKIN (25 News Now) - A husband-and-wife team took the leap and opened their restaurant right before the COVID-19 pandemic. Not long after, a fire gutted their dream. But that hasn’t stopped them from dreaming again, serving up some awesome eats - now in a new city.
Russell & Ashley Spencer originally opened Ashers Bar & Grill in Farmington in 2019. Despite a change in scenery, Ashers never changed its flavor.
We start with a popular favorite - the ‘Asher Bombs’ appetizer: a seasoned hash brown mix with cheese, bacon and sour cream.
It’s an explosion of flavor, and it’s got an amazing texture - complete with an awesome “cheese pull” in every bite.
Next up, it’s time for the main course. We’re trying out Ashers’ famous smothered steak and cheese sandwich, served with mushrooms and onions.
“It’s a Philly-style meat we use,” Russell says. “We scoop this bad boy up, smother it, and give it that nice, thick amount of cheese sauce.”
It’s a sandwich I’ll never forget - the meat, the cheese... It is certainly smothered with love.
And that’s just the start. Ashers has a little something for everybody - burgers, seafood, pasta and colossal tenderloin just to name a few.
Plus, they have a rotating dessert menu. I was lucky to try a delicious and decadent “apple rose”.
“The food is really great - I love the atmosphere. It’s just amazing,” diner Patty Tauscher says.
“Go there very hungry. Because you’re gonna be full when you leave,” diner Scott Carlyle adds.
Add on a full-service bar, and you get the perfect place to pull up in Pekin.
“I just like to see people’s faces when they have a good meal - and a great time at our place,” Russell says.
“We want everybody to feel like family when they come in and when they leave here,” Ashley adds.
Ashers Bar & Grill is located at 353 Court Street in Pekin - right across from the Tazewell County Courthouse.
During the month of October, they are offering “buy one, get one free” on special express menu items.
