DAYTON TOWNSHIP (25 News Now) - Officials say one person was killed in a skydiving accident Saturday afternoon.
Just before 12:30 p.m., the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accident, which happened northeast of Ottawa.
The Sheriff said the victim was found in a cornfield near a skydiving center known as Skydive Chicago.
The LaSalle County Coroner will release the identity of the victim after next of kin is notified.
The Sheriff’s and Coroner’s offices are working together in the investigation, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration.
Skydive Chicago, Inc. issued a statement early Sunday morning:
“It is with deep sadness to announce there was an incident with an experienced skydiver on August 27, 2022. The incident was not during the World Record Attempts nor was the skydiver a part of the World Record Attempts that were being completed the prior week. That being said, to respect the privacy of the family we are not releasing any names at this time. We are working with the appropriate authorities during their investigation. We have no further information at this time.”
