EAST PEORIA (WEEK) - Police have made an arrest in a double fatal crash Sunday in East Peoria, and she is accused of driving drunk.

23-year-old Stephanie Melgoza was arrested Tuesday for investigation of aggravated DUI resulting in death, cannabis possession, and transporting or carrying alcohol.

The crash left two people, 43-year-old Andrea Rosewicz of Avon, Ohio, and 55-year old Paul Prowant of Seattle, Washington, dead.

Police would find a red, Dodge Dart with heavy front end damage, still on scene after the crash in the 3300 hundred block of N. Main Street.

Court records show that officer identified Melgoza as the driver, who “admitted to drinking three vodka drinks prior to driving...” and “striking a person”.

Tazewell County Assistant State’s Attorney Aliesha Graves writes the responding officer “noticed the defendant had the strong odor of alcoholic beverage...as well as slurred speech and red, watery eyes.”

The officer asked Melgoza to take field sobriety tests, which Graves writes “showed signs of impairment.”

The prosecutor further alleges the officer found “a green, leafy substance that field tested positive for cannabis, a hitter pipe, and an open bottle of Tito’s vodka in the vehicle.”
