Train fair brings out hobbyists

PEORIA (25News Now) - Model train enthusiasts and hobbyists had the chance to add to their collection on Sunday.

The River City Model Railroad Club gave those who attended, a chance to learn about engineering and world-building.

Vendor tables highlighted different scales including Lionel, G, N, and Z, and this event featured real railroad memorabilia like hats, shirts, patches, and pins.

Those who enjoy model trains tell 25News, it’s something about this community and hobby which makes this event stick around here in Central Illinois.

Donald MacGregor, a member of the River City Model Railroad Club says, ”it’s a hobby people like, and sometimes you can’t actually say why. Why did I like Model Railroad? I don’t know, it started when I was 6 years old with a Lionel set. My dad got it for me and I’ve been hooked ever since.”

In case you missed this one, the River City Model Railroad will host a similar event on the third Sunday in February at Illinois Central College’s East Peoria campus.
