PEORIA (25News Now) - Earlier Thursday, the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 48th annual Thanksgiving luncheon.

It’s intended to celebrate local business leaders, entrepreneurs and their contributions.

Peoria native and former congressman and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood was the event’s keynote speaker.

“So often, business folks just do their business, right?” said Joshua Gunn, president and CEO. “They have their head down, they’re working hard to meet payroll, to create jobs, to stimulate our economy and they don’t get the recognition they deserve most of the time. So, it’s a great opportunity for us to recognize their work in their business and all they do for the community.”

State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth was the recipient of the Tom Connor Award, in honor of late 25News anchor Tom Connor.

The award is given to those who devote their time to volunteer and aim to make the community a better place in which to live.

It’s given to an individual in the Tri-County area who has shown outstanding long-term commitment to the community.
