(25News Now) - No. 23 Illinois basketball had a big opportunity in front of them on Tuesday. The Illini welcomed No. 4 Marquette to town with a huge chance to post a resume-building non-conference win. But the opportunity came and went for the Orange & Blue. The Illini fell 71-64 to the No. 4 Golden Eagles on Tuesday night at State Farm Center for their first loss of the season. Terrence Shannon Jr. led the way for the Illini with 21 points while Marquette’s reigning Big East Player of the Year Tyler Kolek poured in a game-high 24 points.

The Illini will have a quick turnaround during a busy non-conference week. Illinois hosts Valparaiso on Friday night at 7 p.m. before hosting Southern U on Sunday night at 7 p.m.

Bradley was also in action on Tuesday night. The Braves topped Tarleton State 86-63 to move to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2018-19. Freshman Almar Atlason led the way for BU with 18 points on 6-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
