(25News Now) - Two Central Illinois football teams had the honor of practicing on Monday ahead of this weekend’s state semifinals. In the Twin Cities, the Normal Community Ironmen are headed to the state final four and are gearing up for a road matchup against Downers Grove North on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Class 6A, Washington practiced on their home field on Monday in preparation for their final home game of the season when they host defending state champion East St. Louis on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Monday was also the first day of the girls high school basketball season in Illinois. At the Bank of Pontiac Turkey Tip-Off Tournament at Pontiac and Prairie Central, Peoria Notre Dame got a season that they hope is a very special one off on the right foot with an 85-21 win over Peru St. Bede.

At the Intercity Tournament in Bloomington-Normal, Normal Community started the campaign with a 49-19 win against Bloomington while Bloomington Central Catholic topped Normal West 62-45.

At the Flanagan Integrated Seed Lady Falcon Classic, defending champion Fieldcrest started the season 1-0 with a 73-49 victory over Ottawa Marquette.

At the Lexington Tournament, defending champion Peoria Heights beat LeRoy 50-31.

In a non-conference battle, Brimfield topped Princeville 42-36.
