PRINCEVILLE (25News Now) - Area veterans were invited to Princeville Junior/Senior High School on Thursday where students honored those who served our country.

What made this event particularly meaningful was that students themselves were the organizers.

The keynote speaker was Robert Reed, a volunteer with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight. He said events like this are important because they serve as a way of teaching students about sacrifices veterans have made to protect our freedoms.

“It could be parents, it could be grandparents, it could be a brother or sister, or a neighbor down the street. It’s to give them recognition, and these children get a better understanding of what our veterans have done for us in our country,” said Reed.

Students in Princeville CUSD #326 from kindergarten through 12th grade participated in Thursday’s program.
