No. 25 Illini open season with 80-52 win over Eastern Illinois, Illinois State beats Lourdes in opener

(25News Now) - The No. 25 Illinois basketball team showed why they’re a top 25 team in the country in their season opener on Monday. The Illini stormed past Eastern Illinois 80-52 at State Farm Center. Freshman Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn was terrific in his collegiate debut, leading the Orange & Blue with a game-high 18 points while Terrence Shannon Jr. added 16.
Next up for the 1-0 Illini is a date with Oakland at State Farm Center on Friday night at 7:00.
In Normal, Illinois State opened the season with a 75-56 win over NAIA foe Lourdes (OH). The Redbirds were led by 16 points from Malachi Poindexter. Meanwhile, Bradley went on the road and picked up a 73-71 overtime win over UAB in their season opener.
