LEWISTOWN (25News Now) - Ashley McKown is a 5th and 6th grade science teacher at Lewistown Central.

She starts every school year with a question - “How many of you like science?”

Her goal is to get her students to love science by the end of the year.

To do it, she does a lot of hands-on, fun and educational projects to keep the students engaged while learning.

Doing a bunch of experiments can get expensive, but luckily, Ms. McKown is this week’s 25News and CEFCU One Class at a Time $1,000 grant winner.

She says the money will go towards the next experiment.

“A small greenhouse for our Eco-columns, planting seeds,” Ms. McKown said.

“At the end of the year, this is one project I always do. I have a grow light, but I think it’d be nice to have the natural light and just a small greenhouse outside that the kids can actually see what’s a greenhouse, what does it do, and do more of that hands-on learning, what happens in real life,” she added.
