PFD: kitchen fire spreads smoke through 4-story apartment building

PEORIA (25News Now) - A fire that started in a kitchen spread smoke throughout a four-story apartment building in Central Peoria Monday, causing an estimated $100,000 damage because of all the smoke.
The Peoria Fire Department was called during the noon hour to the Oak Woods Apartments at 740 Joan Court.
First responders saw smoke on all four floors, eventually finding a smoldering fire on a stove top of one of the apartments. The fire spread to cabinets above the stove, said Acting Battalion Chief Larry Carter.
All the residents safely evacuated the building, said Carter. He said one of the occupants was displaced, and the Red Cross was helping that person find another place to stay.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
