Man’s body found in Mapleton lake

MAPLETON (25News Now) -The body of a man was found in a Peoria County lake earlier Monday after reportedly fishing.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says deputies were called to the lake in the 9900 block of South Reed City Road in Mapleton at around 12:15 p.m.

Deputies met with family members of a man who were concerned after finding his vehicle in the area but not finding him.

The man’s boat was found partially sunk shortly after searching the lake

A drone was launched over the lake when his body was found.

The 61-year-old man from Topeka, Illinois was pronounced deceased by the Peoria County Coroner.

Officers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources helped with search and recovery.

Watkins says there are no initial signs of foul play.

The man’s identity will be released later.
