Man shot dead, nephew released from custody in Putnam County, says sheriff

PUTNAM COUNTY (25News Now) - A man is no longer in jail in connection with the shooting and killing of his uncle.

Putnam County Sheriff Josh Boedigheimer says Joshua J. Aalders, 26, of Spring Valley, was taken into custody. but released at around 3:15 p.m.

Boedigheimer says the Putnam County State’s Attorney has decided not to proceed with charges at this time pending outcomes of any evidence and autopsy.

A release from Boedigheimer says that at around 4:52 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office responded to a home for a man who had been shot.

The man was identified as Jack D. Carpenter, 64. Boedigheimer says he was found lying motionless at the end of the driveway.

He died despite lifesaving measures by deputies and medical personnel.

Aalders is being held at the Putnam County Jail during the investigation.

Boedigheimer says this is being considered an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

An autopsy done on Carpenter shows he was shot twice in his upper body.

Boedigheimer says a white Pontiac Grand Prix was involved in the incident - it was processed and additional evidence was found and collected.
