Bicycles to hit the pavement on Peoria’s South Side this weekend
PEORIA (25News Now) - About 100 bicycles will hit the pavement Saturday on Peoria’s south side.
“It Takes a Village of Peoria, Inc.” will host its 11th annual “Riding 4 a Safer Tomorrow” event.
Its purpose is to raise awareness for violence in Peoria and to provide resources to youth and families.
In addition to a community-wide, 4-mile bicycle ride, there will also be free food, music, and games.
“The main thing is networking and working with one another. We’re letting the youth know to lead by example,” said Peoria Police Department’s Keith McDaniel.
“They see us working together, and maybe they’ll buy into the process and curb some of this violence that’s going on here in the city,” McDaniel said.
The theme this year is mental health awareness.
The ride begins at 10 a.m. at the Logan Community Recreation Center.
All riders must be at least 10 years old to participate.
