New AI patient simulators enhance ICC health care student learning
PEORIA (25News Now) - Illinois Central College showed off its new human patient simulators Thursday at the Peoria campus.
“Hal” is this simulator’s name, and there are nine others just like him.
These AI machines help teach nurses and EMT students how to handle a variety of procedures on a life-like patient, like decompressing a collapsed lung, giving CPR and even birthing a child.
Hal talks and reacts in real-time.
“They’re thinking: ‘Well, wait. Why isn’t it happening like it did in school?’”, said ICC Coordinator of Simulation and Skills Labs Greg Love.
“We can make it trend better and realistically change as they would see in a real patient,” said Love.
Love said there are only four colleges or universities in Illinois that have these AI simulators for healthcare students.
Students can also perform practice surgery on Hal.
These AI patient simulators started selling on the market in early 2022.
