Washington mayor announces bid for state senate

(25News Now) - Washington Mayor Gary Manier says he’s running for state senate in Illinois’ 53 district.
Manier says he’s running as a Republican in the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Tom Bennett (R-Gibson City).
Bennett announced in July that he is retiring after his term expires in January 2025.
The 53rd district covers all or part of several area counties including Peoria, McLean, Tazewell, Woodford, Marshall, Putnam, Bureau and LaSalle counties.
