(25News Now) - Normal Community football has started the season a perfect 4-0 including an impressive win over Peoria High in Week 4. One of the stars of all four wins has been senior captain Dexter Niekamp who is a tone-setter for the Ironmen defensively.

Niekamp isn’t the most boisterous player or the most vocal leader, but he lets his play do the talking and it speaks volumes. His relentless motor and work ethic not only gives opposing offenses headaches, but it also sets an example for the rest of his teammates.

And he credits a lot of his success to how much football runs in his family. His dad, Travis, is the defensive coordinator at Illinois State where his brother, Tye, is a standout linebacker for the Redbirds. Next season, Dexter will join his dad and brother at ISU, but first he’s focused on his final high school season and helping lead the Ironmen to what he feels can be a very special season.
