PEORIA (25News Now) - After multiple rounds of showers and even thunderstorms Saturday, quieter conditions will return to the second half of the weekend. A few lingering showers will be possible as a cold front continues to slide east, but plenty of dry time is still on tap. High pressure will build through the work week helping bring plenty of sunshine back to Central Illinois!

Sunday: Light rain continues early this morning as an area of low pressure slides east across southern Michigan. A cold front extends south from the area of low pressure which was responsible for Saturday’s rainfall. As this low pressure slides east, a few additional showers will be possible through our Sunday. The best chance for showers will trend along and to the east of the Illinois River in the afternoon. Showers are expected to be widely scattered and are not expected to last long enough to cancel any outdoor plans. A stray cold air funnel or two are possible mainly east of I-55 where there is a greater chance for rain later today.

The rest of the region will trend relatively quiet under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Patchy fog is possible early this morning as clouds begin to gradually clear. This clearing plus the added moisture from Saturday’s storms will be enough to create patchy dense fog. Be mindful if you have any early morning driving and encounter any fog. The fog should quickly clear through the morning as the sun continues to rise over the horizon. Temperatures will be cooler again with highs in the lower 70′s for most.

Next Week: High pressure will begin to build tonight into Monday. This will help bring sunnier conditions for much of the work week along with some warmer temperatures. Monday will trend near average with highs in the mid 70′s before daytime highs reach the 80′s for Tuesday through Friday. The work week will feature lots of dry time with the exception of Tuesday morning when a weak system looks to pass through the Lower Great Lakes. A few showers will be possible Tuesday morning otherwise a dry forecast can be expected!
