25 Sports High School Saturday - September 16, 2023

(25News Now) - Saturday’s high school sports slate was headlined by a great non-conference soccer match in the Twin Cities. Normal Community got a late goal from senior Chase Dwinal to edge Morton 1-0 for a big home win.

At the Dunlap Cross Country Invitational, Central Illinois runners had a strong day. In the girls race, Eureka’s Meika Bender finished second individually in a competitive field as the Hornets finished 3rd as a team. The host Dunlap Eagles finished 2nd in the team standings led by a 3rd place finish from Katie Sell and a 4th place finish from Abby Tudeen. In the boys race, Eureka won the team title behind a second-place finish from Andrew Perry.

In golf, Pekin’s Dragon Classic wrapped up on Saturday. The Dragons’ Owen Gruden finished fifth individually with Normal West’s Jack Wenzel right behind him in sixth. Bloomington Central Catholic was the top area team finisher in fourth place.
