PEORIA (25News Now) - Active conditions are set to return through the weekend after gorgeous weather to end the work week. A passing cold front will bring the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend’s forecast. While the weekend does feature rain, neither day will be a washout as we will see dry time throughout the day.

Saturday: Clouds continue to build early this morning as a cold front pushes eastward from the central Great Plains. Ahead of this cold front, scattered showers have developed that will gradually arrive to Central Illinois through the morning. You will want to have the umbrella handy if you have any morning plans, as scattered showers will be ongoing. These showers are expected to slide east through the morning into the early afternoon before a bit of dry time arrives ahead of the cold front later in the day.

Scattered showers and storms will be possible throughout the day.

The cold front will bring the chance for more widespread rain as well as scattered thunderstorms for the evening. An isolated strong to severe storm is possible with this cold front. The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas along and to the west of the Illinois River under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe weather. If any severe thunderstorm were to form, hail up to quarter size and damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour would be the primary threats. Our main window for any severe weather will run from 5-8 PM, but expect storm chances to continue later into the evening for areas east of the Illinois River.

It’ll be a good idea to keep an eye on the sky and have the rain gear handy if you have any evening plans such as the Morton Pumpkin Festival due to the rain and storm chances.

Sunday: Lingering showers will continue into Sunday’s forecast before coming to an end. Showers will be more likely to the east of the Illinois River during the afternoon as the cold front continues to slide eastward. Expect clouds to begin clearing during the late afternoon and evening. A few isolated showers will be possible during the afternoon, but most will remain dry for the second half of the day.

Warmer temperatures will arrive next week.

Temperatures will remain cool through the weekend due to the rain. Highs will trend in the upper 60′s to lower 70′s both Saturday and Sunday before warmer temperatures arrive next week.
