Former Peoria High Principal talks plans in new PPS position
PEORIA (25News Now) - The new school year is one month in, and Peoria Public Schools transitioned former Peoria High Principal Annette Coleman into a different role.
The district’s new community-based social-emotional learning director Annette Coleman started two weeks ago at the Wraparound Center.
Coleman is a long-time educator in the school district.
In her new role, Coleman says she’s working with organizations too, like the Boys and Girls Club.
She has already started implementing the “Seven Mindsets Initiative”, which teaches students to set goals and create a set of individual moral beliefs.
Coleman will continue helping students and families apply for jobs, as well as provide therapy for victims of crime, a food pantry and more.
“It’s a whole comprehensive service for the entire family,” said Coleman.
“So, I think it’s much needed, but I also think the biggest thing is just the connection, making sure that our families know these services are available,” she said.
Coleman added the district will reach out to more partners. The Wraparound Center’s brochure said the organization aims to meet the needs of students and their families.
The Wraparound Center is located at Trewyn Middle School on the Latrobe Street side.
