Illegal guns, drugs seized during early Tuesday search warrant
PEORIA (25News Now) - A man was arrested earlier Tuesday after a search warrant turned up illegal guns and drugs at a home in Peoria.
Peoria Police spokesperson Semone Roth says 41-year-old Darnell D. Payton was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of cannabis.
Roth says that at around 6 a.m., members of the department’s special investigations division and SWAT team executed a search warrant on a home in the 400 block of East Thrush.
A search of the home yielded illegal drugs, drug packaging, drug equipment, two handguns, extended Glock magazines and ammunition.
Payton was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
“Although this morning’s bust may not seem like much to some people, our officers removed two more illegal guns off the streets of Peoria. As I stated last week, the Peoria Police Department will continue to use every available tool and resource at our disposal to reduce violence in this great city. Whether it’s one gun or 50 guns, every illegal gun off the streets is a win for our community,” Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said.
