Two people injured after hit-and-run in Peoria

PEORIA (25News Now) - Peoria Police responded to a business in the 1400 block of Southwest Jefferson Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday in regards to a hit-and-run.

Two adult women were injured after being hit by a car that ran a red light at Jefferson Avenue and MacArthur Highway. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Nikolas A. Hammond, also hit an occupied parked vehicle.

One of the victims suffered minor injuries, and the other has serious injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.

Hammond also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

During the investigation, officers in Bartonville observed Hammond in his vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Hammond was charged with hit-and-run with great bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated DUI with bodily injury, failure to give info or render aid, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI, and unsafe equipment.

The police are not releasing any more information at this time.
