KENNEY, Ill (25News Now) - Police are searching for a gunman who they say shot and killed one person and wounded another in a shooting in Kenney on Sunday afternoon.
The DeWitt County Sheriff says the suspect has been identified as Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz. He is described as a Hispanic man, about 5′6′' and 165 pounds. He was last seen driving a white 2019 Honda Accord with an Illinois license plate that reads DT50632.
The sheriff says the shooting happened south of Kenney around 3:23 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Deputies found one victim in his vehicle on Illinois Route 54 and Jordan Street. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to John Warner Hospital in Clinton and was later taken to Carle Hospital in Champaign where he remains in stable condition.
The sheriff says four other victims remained at the scene and were hiding from the suspect. While speaking with them, deputies confirmed a fifth person was fatally wounded. Deputies got the other victims to safety and they were taken to the sheriff’s office to be interviewed about the incident.
Authorities believe Munoz could be heading to Mexico, as he has ties there. He is wanted for murder and other felony charges in relation to this shooting.
