Washington grad Mason McCoy receives long-awaited call-up to MLB with Blue Jays
(25News Now) - After grinding for the better part of seven years in the minor leagues, Washington grad and former ICC standout Mason McCoy finally got the call on Tuesday. McCoy is headed to The Show as the Blue Jays promoted him to the MLB for the first time in his career.
The 28-year-old graduated from Washington in 2013 before going on to play at ICC where he was a two-time NJCAA All-American. He then moved on to Iowa where he was twice an All-Big Ten selection.
McCoy was then a sixth-round pick of the Orioles in the 2017 draft. McCoy made it to AAA in the Baltimore organization before being traded to the Mariners in 2022. He spent just over a year with the Seattle organization before being dealt to the Blue Jays just before the trade deadline in 2023. He now gets the call from AAA Buffalo and is on the roster with the big league team in Toronto for their series with the Nationals.
