25 Sports High School Saturday - August 26, 2023
(25News Now) - Thanks to some bad weather on Friday night, a number of Week 1 high school football games had to be completed or played entirely on Saturday.
That included Class 2A No. 4 Tri-Valley picking up a 35-7 season-opening win over Warrensburg-Latham in a game that started on Friday. Meanwhile, fellow HOI member Tremont fell to Clinton in their season opener. In a game that was always scheduled to be played Saturday, Normal U-High picked up a 35-18 victory over Springfield in their season opener.
In soccer, Peoria Notre Dame wrapped up their weekend in Indiana at the Noblesville Midwest Invite playing some of the Midwest’s best teams. The Irish bested five-time Michigan state champion Okemos 3-0 in their tournament finale. PND went 3-0 and outscored their opponents 10-0 at the tournament. Back in Central Illinois, Dunlap battled Mahomet-Seymour to a 1-1 draw.
In cross country, the Washington girls won the team championship at the Normal West Invite led by Sophia Ramriez’s second-place finish. The Panthers boys finished third as a team.
In golf, Peoria Notre Dame’s Ella Coulter was the individual medalist at the BCC Saints Shootout at Prairie Vista. Normal U-High won the team title.
