(25News Now) - With an excessive heat warning in effect until Thursday, local high school teams are having to get creative with ways to bet the heat. For some teams, that means hosting early morning practices.

Morton football kicked off their Tuesday practice at 6 a.m. as they gear up for their Week 1 opener against Mahomet-Seymour.

Washington cross country had its first competition of the season canceled due to the weather, but still found a way to squeeze in practice bright and early at 5:45 a.m.

Many other teams will practice later in the evening to avoid the high temperatures.
