‘Making the best of a bad situation’ at Dream Center Peoria
PEORIA (25News Now) - Crews are cleaning up the mess at Dream Center Peoria after a clogged waterline caused water to pour down to the lower floors of the shelter on Hamilton Boulevard.
Water service was shut down from late Wednesday night to about mid-afternoon on Thursday, and in a Facebook post, a picnic lunch was arranged to boost everyone’s spirits.
Hy-Vee at Grand Prairie provided hot dogs, chips, fruit and drinks.
“It was really a fun event, making the best out of a bad situation,” Andrew King, Dream Center Peoria’s executive director, told 25News.
And, if lunch wasn’t enough, Hy-Vee brought dinner as well, including fried chicken and baked beans.
“They knew what a tough time we had been through that day. We are really grateful,” said King.
King said Dream Center has insurance for the damages, but with a high deductible.
“As we review the damage from this week’s incident, please be praying for us as we continue to Give Dignity, Show Compassion and Ignite Purpose to all who connect with Dream Center Peoria,” the organization said in its Facebook media post.
