LINCOLN (25News Now) - A man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Lincoln Thursday night.
Lincoln Police Chief Joseph Meister say officers responded to a home at around 10 p.m. on Rigg Drive to help a person suffering from a mental health crisis.
The 31-year-old man was reportedly observed armed with a knife.
Officers attempted to negotiate with the man but he refused to drop the knife and surrender.
The man lunged at an officer. Police say officers used an “electronic control device” in an attempt to subdue him, but were unsuccessful.
The man was then shot by an officer, who then fled but was stopped near the intersection of 21st and North State streets where he was shot again after another unsuccessful attempt to negotiate by officers.
The man was then disarmed of the knife.
Illinois State Police are investigating. The Lincoln Police officers involved are on administrative leave per policy.
