Heat continues, along with a few isolated storms today
PEORIA (25News Now) - No need for the extra layers this morning! It’s a very mild start to Wednesday, with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s across central Illinois. The warm start will give way to another hot afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s area-wide, with many spots forecast to top out near 90°. Southerly winds will bring an increase in moisture, which will push the muggy meter into the slightly humid level today. This increase in humidity may fuel the chance for a few isolated storms.

While most areas will stay dry, a few slow-moving storms will bring much needed rain for a few lucky locations. It’s nearly impossible to pinpoint where exactly these storms will occur, so you’ll want to keep an eye to the sky if out and about soaking up some of the sunshine this afternoon. No severe weather is expected and storm chances will decrease with the loss of daytime heating. Rinse and repeat for Thursday.

The extended forecast features a return to dry heat this weekend, with highs in the mid 90s Saturday and Sunday. There are no significant chances for rain in the extended forecast, which is not a good sign considering how dry conditions have been over the past few weeks. Stay tuned as we track the current prolonged heatwave!
