25 Sports High School Super Monday - May 29, 2023
(25News Now) - Memorial Day Monday was Super Monday in small schools baseball and softball around Illinois and four Central Illinois teams were in action looking to punch their tickets to state.
In Class 1A softball, two-time defending state champion Illini Bluffs is headed back to state. An 8th inning home run from freshman Sara Finn powered the Tigers to a 3-2 extra-innings win over Carrollton to win the Athens Super-Sectional.
IB will next play LeRoy who turned in a brilliant pitching and defensive performance to knock off Ottawa Marquette 2-1 in 8 innings. The Panthers Natalie Loy drove in the game-winning run in the 8th while fellow sophomore Lilly Long struck out 11 in the circle. IB and LeRoy will square off Friday at 12:30 at the Louisville Slugger Complex in a state semifinal matchup.
In Class 2A baseball, Bloomington Central Catholic’s terrific season came to an end with a loss to Quincy Notre Dame
In Class 1A baseball, Henry scored all three runs in the third inning and held off a late comeback attempt to beat Milford 3-2 and advance to state. The Mallards will play Sterling Newman Catholic in the state semifinal on Friday at 12 at Dozer Park.
Tuesday is Super-Sectional day in big schools soccer. Peoria Notre Dame is gearing up for their Super-Sectional matchup against Chicago power Benet Academy at Washington at 6:30 p.m.
