PEORIA (25News Now) - A body pulled from the Illinois River Monday afternoon has been identified.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says James Byrd, 64, of Peoria, was pronounced deceased on scene at 3:36 p.m. Monday.

Autopsy shows that he died from drowning and had no apparent trauma to his body.

Toxicology is pending. It is unknown how or why he was in the water.

The body was found partially submerged along the Riverfront behind Martini’s.
