Wounded police officer identified in Thursday morning shooting

ROMEOVILLE (25News Now) - Authorities have identified the Romeoville Police officer who was shot early Thursday during a foot chase with an armed robbery suspect.
Dominic Thielmann has been with the department six years. Just before 12:15 a.m., Thielmann was shot in the right shoulder and is in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
“The Romeoville Police Department would like to express sincere gratitude to those who have showed their support for Officer Thielmann and his family,” police said in a statement released Thursday evening.
Police arrested Samer Hernandez, 29, about 5 1/2 hours after the shooting near the intersection of Sierra Trail and Summerville Drive in Romeoville.
Hernandez is charged with armed robbery tied to a stolen vehicle theft in Romeoville May 20.
Prosecutors are expected to file an attempted murder charge alleging Hernandez shot the officer.
Romeoville has a population of almost 40,000, and is located in Will County, about 26 miles southwest of Chicago.
