Romeoville Police officer shot overnight, suspect in custody

ROMEOVILLE (25News Now) - The Romeoville Police Department says one of its officers was shot overnight Thursday.
Police say it happened when officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in the area of Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive.
When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect ran on foot and then shot the officer according to Romeoville Police.
Later in the morning, police arrested the suspect Samer Hernandez, 29.
The officer was shot in the shoulder and taken to Loyola University Medical Center. Police say there is no update on their condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
