MORTON (25News Now) - Morton Police Department celebrated the retirement of its K9 named “Shadow” Thursday.

There was a party for the 11-year-old dog at the Morton Police Department.

The community was invited to say hello and take pictures with Shadow.

Over the course of his career, Shadow assisted in nearly 200 arrests and sniffed out more than 1,500 grams of illegal drugs.

Officer Mike Foster and Shadow graduated from the K9 academy in 2014. Foster said his partner is ready for some well-deserved rest.

“I think Morton was blessed to have a police dog work for us and help the citizens of Morton,” said Officer Mike Foster. “I’m going to miss him. It’s going to be a little bit of a lonely time at work, without having him with me.”

Foster said the department is in the process of finding a new K-9 to replace Shadow.
